Why we started Packuptrip

A small studio in Chennai, two years of trips, and the strange loneliness of group tours.

The first trip that started this

We were six strangers in a tempo traveller in Spiti, none of us knowing that the founder of Packuptrip was crammed in the back row, taking notes on a paper bag.

That trip was beautiful and broken in equal measure. The guide hadn't been to half the places on the itinerary. Two travellers wanted yoga retreats; three wanted to drink at altitude. Everyone was, in their own way, lonely.

The strangest part of organised travel: the more the operator does for you, the less your trip belongs to you.

What we're trying to do differently

Two engines, one community. **Packuptrip Originals** are the fixed, beautifully-run trips we curate ourselves — like a small house publishing a few books a year. **Community Trips** are journeys hosted by travellers themselves: someone is already going where you want to go, and you can join them.

Both share the same trust layer — verified hosts, secure payments, two-way reviews. Both are run by humans you can actually message before you fly.

The slow road, deliberately

We're not building the Airbnb of trips. We're building something quieter: a place where travel is editorial, not algorithmic. Where the homepage reads like a magazine, not a search engine.

If that sounds like your kind of place — welcome. There's a long road ahead.
